Helpful Hints for a Vegan Wedding
Monday, October 3, 2011

Planning a vegan wedding is a little more comprehensive than planning a regular wedding, but with good planning (and a great baker and chef) your guests probably won’t know the difference unless you tell them! Here’s a list of a few things to consider when setting out to have a cruelty-free event:
- Invitations - Finding eco-friendly papers and inks is getting easier and easier! Our designers at rd i do can point you in the right direction for starting your celebrations off as greenly as possible!
- Wedding Attire - Non-wool suits, satin rather than silk, and non-leather shoes will be a must. Start early, and try online retailers - there are lots of animal-friendly stores and fashion lines popping up.
- Food - Look for vegan chefs or restaurants that cater in your area. Or, since you’re footing the bill, a regular catering company can work with you on a animal-free menu that will be good enough to make your guests forget all about prime rib. Also, take into consideration what’s in season during your wedding, is it apple season? Or is asparagus abundant?
- Cake - Vegan cakes are possible, and extremely delicious. Again, you can find a vegan baker or bakery in your area, or coach a regular baker in the ways of vegan baking.
A vegan wedding may take a little more work, especially if you live somewhere with not a lot of vegan options in the area, but it is doable. Remember, the wedding is your special day, and it should reflect the things that are important to YOU, even if that means skipping the scallops.
